Following a fantastic fluke stroke in German Masters qualification, UK Championship Cue Sport champion Mark Allen was forced to apologize to his opponent. Allen was back in play for the first time since beating Ding Junhui in the final on Sunday and the Northern Irishman continued where he left off in York, beating Peter Lines in the tournament qualifier. His triumph, however, was not without a touch of luck, as he played a fortunate five-cushion escape in frame six.

Allen found himself trapped behind the yellow ball on the top cushion, with all the accessible red balls hidden at the table’s base at the UK Championship Cue Sport. His effort smacked off the top right pocket, slid down to the bottom cushion, and then back up to the top of the table, leaving just a single crimson streak down the opposite end of the table. Allen couldn’t believe his good fortune.
As a consequence, the Northern Irishman placed his palm to his head and apologized to Lines before chuckling back in his seat. Following Sunday’s stunning triumph against Ding, the Northern Irish star was undoubtedly on a high at the UK Championship Cue Sport. Allen’s epic battle with his Chinese opponent began at 1pm and ended at 11:30pm later than evening, but the wait was well worthwhile for the world No. 4. The Northern Irishman put on a show for the ages, coming back from a 6-1 deficit to win the match 10-7.
Allen was bewildered by what he had just accomplished in the aftermath of his win. “To be honest, I don’t know how I did it,” he told Eurosport.
