NBA Power Rankings

At the NBA Power Rankings halfway point of the 2022-23 season, we’re showcasing one distinguishing statistic for each club.
- The Celtics of Boston (17-4)
- 2 previous
NBA Power Rankings Net rating isn’t ideal, but it provides an accurate representation of a team’s total performance. The Celtics’ NBA-best rating of 9.0 is more than a point ahead of the second-best Suns.

Milwaukee Bucks No. 2 (14-5)
- 1st Previous:
As a championship contender, the Bucks’ league-leading 106.5 defensive rating is their backbone. Brook Lopez, Giannis Antetokounmpo, and Jrue Holiday are all among the top individual defenders in their respective positions right now.
- The Phoenix Suns (14-6)
- 6 previous
Although the Celtics and Bucks have the highest offensive and defensive ratings in the league, the Suns are the only club to place in the top five in both categories at the NBA Power Rankings. They have the greatest offense in the league and are tied for eighth in defense.
The Nuggets of Denver (13-7)
- 3 previous
The Nuggets’ offense has once again tanked without Nikola Jokic, with a 24-point disparity per 100 possessions. When he sits, their offensive rating drops to 101.0, which is by far the lowest in the league.
Grizzlies of Memphis (12-8)

- 5 previous
NBA Power Rankings Memphis has a top-three offensive rebounding rate of 33.4% for the second year in a row. Despite terrible space at times, the Grizzlies’ ability to produce second opportunities has helped them become a top-10 offense.
Cleveland Cavaliers (6) (13-8)
- 7 previous
The NBA Power Rankings Cavaliers are 8-1 versus clubs below.500, but are just 5-7 against winning teams. This must improve if they want to establish themselves as a top-tier team in the Eastern Conference.
The 76ers of Philadelphia (12-9)
- 14 previous
James Harden and Joel Embiid have only played 156 minutes together in six games. It’s difficult to predict the 76ers’ potential until all of their key players are healthy.
The Warriors of Golden State (11-11)
- preceding: 21
How ineffective has the Warriors’ guard play been in support of Steph Curry? Except for Ty Jerome, every other backcourt player in the rotation is shooting 41.5% or worse from the field, while Curry is shooting a career-high 51.8%.
Portland Trail Blazers (9th) (11-10)
- 4 previous
The NBA Power Rankings Blazers may not be the best shooting team in the league, but they compensate with the league’s second-highest free-throw rate. Damian Lillard, in example, is sixth in the league with over nine attempts per game.
The Pacers of Indiana (12-8)

- preceding: 18
The vibes in Indiana are fantastic right now, but Tyrese Haliburton has been even better. If the season ended today, he would be just the second player in history to average at least 11 assists and 2.5 3-pointers made per game. James Harden is the other for the NBA Power Rankings.
